The global blind population currently stands at 40 million. A large section of this population is being denied access to many opportunities and facilities due to limited reach and high costs involved because of their disability. Multimodal books for Visually Impaired People
Visually Impaired people lag far behind sighted people in terms of learning and adapting to new things because of unavailability of learning material and recreational activities. This affects their development cycle. Braille has served as a great alternative for text but there is no such alternative for diagrams/pictures.
Our solution is an affordable multimodal inclusive education platform for visually impaired people. It consists of a tactile material (books, recreational material, storybooks and games), a foldable/portable stand and a mobile application which enables audio interaction with the diagram. The tactile material is fixed at the bottom of the stand and the mobile device is enclosed at the top of the stand to allow proper scanning. The app employs computer vision techniques to provide simultaneous audio stimulus to the user as per user’s index finger location. A 3D printed cap with colour tags is used for accurate detection of the user’s finger. The app works in two modes-online and offline and allows cloud sourcing of data in online mode. Our objective is to reach out to 17.5 million people in developing countries in the next 5 years.

AI-powered smart eyewear
The lives of the visually impaired in India are adversely impacted by the lack of tools available to them to lead lives of reasonable independence. Their mobility is severely affected. The quality of their lives deteriorate and they are denied the opportunities freely available to their sighted counterparts.
Eye-D Cam is designed to change the lives of the visually impaired. It is an affordable smart-goggles that helps a blind person see the world. Powered by AI, it helps a visually impaired person know minute details of their surroundings, helps during travel and reads printed text in 100+ languages. Globally, just 10% of the deaf population uses hearing aids. This proves that 90% people are still looking for a more user friendly solution that will make their lives simpler. Hearing impaired people miss out on many sound notifications such as doorbell, fire alarm, vehicle honks etc. There is currently no affordable solution being that is non-invasive and within their comfort zone.
BleeWatch is a wearable smart-watch for the hearing impaired which notifies users about these events through vibrations and colour-coded icons. The watch can also talk back for you. The user can save any emergency sentence, phrase and name in the app. With a press of a button the BleeWatch speaks out the selected sentence/ phrase/ name. BleeWatch also helps you dance by converting choreography counts into vibration patterns.
The user can stay connected with his/her loved ones by using the Help feature on the watch. When the panic button on the watch is pressed, the location of the user is sent to up to 5 of the emergency contacts. All the features of the BleeWatch are aimed at making the hearing impaired user independent and confident in his/her environment.

Braille Computer - Touché
As of now, Braille is the only form of literacy for the blind and audio text to speech is no substitute. Also, the visually impaired have only very limited access to computer information systems.
In order to bridge this gap, we have developed Touche which is a Refreshable Braille Display which provides a tactile interface for anything digital. The device has a display area where there are hundreds of small pin-like projections that can be felt like the embossed Braille dots on paper. These dots change and refresh after a line has been read. The result is a device like a Kindle for the blind. Books can be stored on the device or loaded using USB pen drives. The device has WIFI, Ethernet, HDMI ports as well as a USB external drive option with 4 USB ports. With about 10Gb internal memory that can be used for a library, between 30000 and 50000 books or documents could be easily stored on each device.

Aum Voice Prosthesis
At least 5000 -10000 patients in India each year potentially stand to lose their voice box to throat cancer after laryngectomy (removal of voice box) due to advanced throat cancers. Most of them hail from poor socio-economic backgrounds. They cannot afford proper treatment and rehabilitation suffers in the process. Currently, most of the South Asian countries grapple with similar issues of voice rehabilitation. Countries such as Bangladesh and others do not even have specialists trained in this procedure nor the options of voice rehab.
We have innovated a voice prosthesis (patent filed) called Aum Voice prosthesis at less than 1$ (Rs. 50) using platinum cured medical grade silicon. This simple device converts your food pipe into a voice box and helps patients speak again. Currently, we have more than 100 patients speaking with it, most from very low income backgrounds. Some patients have been able to regain their voice after 15 years of silence by using Aum Voice prosthesis.

Ventilated Socket for Prosthesis
The device is a cost effective prosthesis socket solution designed using the principle of deflection. The vertical components in the device are designed to deform radially in preset directions alternately, ensuring variable gripping which releases pressure on the stump, at every step taken. This guarantees that no pressure accumulation occurs on critical points of the stump as well as air flow between the socket and stump resulting in ventilation. The entire principle is put into action with the help of the weight of the subject (pre-considered) and is not motorized.

Devika's Dome is a product made by students of the National Institute of Design and Central Saint Martins, in collaboration with the Ahmedabad based company Prabhat. It was designed to bring an element of fun into the physical therapy of a 11-year-old cerebral palsy patient, Devika, who had difficulty with motor skills and mental development.
The product is a four feet tall dome with a diameter of 5 feet made of steel pipes. It is divided into 3 sectors of progressing sizes, which allow for them to slide over each other with ease. They are connected at the top using a single bolt. This design enables the dome to be slid shut and tucked away, perfect for the small residential spaces of rural India.
Each of the six segments is fitted with elements which enable activities that mimic the physical therapy and mental exercises that a cerebral palsy patient like Devika performs. These include a chalkboard, a sound panel, a color, light, and shape panel, and a buttons and zippers panel among others.
